Activity 5: Challenging Assumptions

Assumptions are when we think of something to be sure without any definite proof.

Warm-up Activity

Listed assumptions we as a class have about tea

After we enlisted all these assumptions, each one of us had to pick one assumption out of the list and challenge it. For example the most common assumption that most of us made for the warm up activity was that tea is a beverage that can only be enjoyed at home or at a roadside stall .

But when we soon challenged this assumption we got to know that a company called Chaayos offered an assortment of flavours of tea which attracted customers. This made them get out of their houses and have a cup of tea at their restaurant.

Main Activity

The dish given to us was Chola Bhatura Miro Link

We listed down assumptions related to our food, after doing that we as a group, challenged a few of these assumptions from the list and derived to a variety of outcomes. We made a customer review and a poster based on the assumptions we challenged.

Reflection

The challenges that our group selected were very reasonable and we were successful in facing those challenges, however we could have done a better job on the part where we listed down our assumptions.

Group 4 really stood out in listing down their assumptions. The mind map that they had created was very vast and open ended. They had further highlighted the assumptions that they had challenged, which was a very clear and an efficient way of communication.

Our group had been struggling in listing down 40 assumptions but then later we realised that all these assumption came out of our own experiences that we have had with this particular dish. Finally, our past experiences helped us list down more assumptions about this dish.

Learning Mantra

Most of our assumptions have outlived their uselessness.
