Learners Journey Log, Essence of Colour-1
The aim of this project is to be able to conduct a structured inquiry, understanding the role of associations. Research follows a systematic approach to capture accurate data.
I practiced healthy research ethics and followed a code of conduct while making observations or drawing conclusions.

The research methods I used for inquiry are divided into two categories, the first is primary research methods which include observation, experimentation, talking (hearing) and the other category is secondary research methods which include reading, watching and discussing. The methods that really helped me were observation and reading.
1. Observation was really beneficial for me because it helped me collect information, gain knowledge and fired my curiosity. Since this is a primary research method, I conduct it myself and I was able to explore/ inquire on the basis of my own perspective which was more open-ended and indulge in structured and narrow ended questions. Since the colour I was given is brown, my focus went to objects that I would be able to find in nature.
The struggle I faced was that since observing was a first hand experience, I was not able to get the answer to all my inquiries. Plus colour is a subjective topic hence, there are always going to be debates regarding what my opinion is. With this I can go to the next research method which helped me overcome the challenge(s) I was facing.
2. Reading helped me to come to a standstill in what I believed and what I had an opinion about. Reading after observing went hand in hand for me. I read articles and interviews which really gave me more confidence in what I had observed about the colour brown. Because of reading my I was getting answers and responses for the inquiries I had made.
The curiosity to know more was sky-rocketing after observing, and reading helped me dig deeper into the topic(s) at hand.
For example, I saw a lot of brown and wooden furniture at my house, and that made me ponder as to what is the feeling I can associate with this furniture. I felt safe, at home, grounded. Brown is the colour of dark wood or rich soil. Brown is the colour of earth since brown to me represents warmth, honesty, security, comforting and nurturing. Elegance is also something I can associate brown with. The feeling of being humbled and grounded arrises when brown surrounds me.
So, I read a few articles about the psychological effects of brown, I came to know that since brown is a natural and neutral colour that is typically associated with fall and winter.
Brown stimulates as sense of strength and reliability, because brown is often seen as solid, much like the earth, and it's a color often associated with resilience, dependability, security, and safety. The feelings of warmth, comfort, and security come into picture, because brown is often described as natural, down-to-earth, and conventional, but brown can also be sophisticated.
I read more about it the reasons and pondered even more, reading assisted me in exploring more in the "why" of colours, not to mention that reading helped me acquiring knowledge about my colour and colour in general.
I struggled with reading, meaning that even though reading helped me with majority of this project, it does require a great deal of effort, time and patience, since not all readings are able to give the answers. Regardless of the downside, I will make sure to find ways that reduce the time and work more efficiently.

Since there is a lot of information, making errors and not being able to communicate the process did become difficult. It looked as if all relevant information is just thrown onto the canvas and looked very scattered all across the different mediums, sheets and documents. Here is where mind map came to rescue! I am familiar with the concept of mind maps. It is a graphical representation of information which helps to organise, breakdown things into simpler form example a particular colour can have different contexts like social, cultural, psychological. These different streams can branch into more examples or information or questions which can easily be communicated. A good mind map is a like a huge tree, which has a lot of information and interconnections. Mind maps are a medium to communicate clear thoughts and show an overview.
The challenge here would be to how to organise the data appropriately according to the categories. To overcome it one must have complete knowledge about they are adding to the mind map. I will surely use this tool in my future works to organise my data. It gave a shape to our ideas and thoughts.
mind mapping was not a new topic for me as I have been doing it in my personal journal.
but this mind map included the whole groups view points about our color which made it even more wider and interesting, it made the information part a lot easier to read and explain. The categorization became easier with the help of the arrows and boxes. One of the limitation was that it became very cluttered because of the vast information, but spreading it a bit here and there solved that problem.
